A Weekend of Growing, Good Food & Guilds

Hi Reader,

Last weekend, a group of amazing gardeners gathered at Bethany Farm for our Build A Guild Workshop—and I have to say, it was something special.

We designed guilds, planted together, shared meals straight from the farm, and had the kind of conversations that make you see gardening in a whole new way. 🌿

Even if you couldn’t make it, I wanted to bring you inside the experience and invite you to take the next step in your own garden journey.

📸 A Peek Inside the Workshop

🌱 The Guilds We Built: Attendees put their pens to paper and created thriving, self-sustaining plant communities—carefully pairing fruit trees, nitrogen fixers, ground covers, and pollinators. The results? Stunning!

🍽 A Farm-to-Table Feast: After the first session, we gathered for a beautiful meal. Some of the ingredients were grown right here on the farm. There’s nothing like eating fresh, local food while talking about the gardens that nourish us!

We made our kimchi from this Napa Cabbage (it worked even if it was already bolting).

🐔 Our Feathered Farm Helpers: The chickens, of course, provided the eggs we used, and continue to be part of the experience—scratching, composting, and reminding us how animals fit into the permaculture system.

🚶‍♂️ Garden Tour: Dave led us on a garden tour, observing how different plants work together, spotting opportunities for improvement, and brainstorming new ways to grow more food with less effort.

💬 The Conversations That Stood Out: One attendee said, “There are so many takeaways from this!”.
Yes, we learned about permaculture guilds, but we also learned:

  • What planting on contour to capture water passively looks like on a slope
  • We learned about composting by putting our lunch containers straight into the compost bin so they can be food for our Eisenia fetida red wriggler worms
  • We learned from each other about caring for apples organically.

🌱 You Can Still Take the Next Step!

Not being at the workshop doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the knowledge, tools, and support you need to grow abundantly.

That’s why we created the Grow-It-Yourself (GIY) Program—a step-by-step roadmap to help you design, plant, and maintain a thriving garden.🌿

Inside GIY, you’ll get 1-on-1 support PLUS:
✔ A full Core Course to guide you through garden planning & success
Monthly Q&As and Garden Goal Sessions to keep you on track
Exclusive PDFs, planting calendars, and templates to make planning easy
A private community to get support and share your progress
Full access to SAGE, our smart garden planner that tells you exactly when & where to plant

🌿 What’s Your Next Gardening Goal?

I’d love to hear—what’s one thing you’re committing to in your garden this month?
🌱 Starting a new planting area?
🌳 Adding more perennials & companion plants?
🍂 Improving your soil health?

Hit reply and let us know!
We’d love to follow up and help you stay on track.

Grow abundantly,
🌱Nicky & Dave

Composting

In a way, when we compost, we echo God's promised resurrection. So if you've ever wondered whether composting is worth the effort, the answer is a resounding YES—and we break it all down in our latest blog + video on composting!Composting isn't...

Heirloom Seeds

Hi again, Reader,Happy Spring Equinox!Imagine holding a seed in your hand—one that’s been passed down through generations, carrying not just the potential to grow food, but also the stories of the people who preserved it.This is the beauty of heirloom seeds. 🌿Unlike modern hybrid seeds designed for uniformity and mass production, heirloom seeds hold:✔ genetic diversity✔ resilience✔ and unique flavors that have been lost in today’s food system.
