Save Your Seeds with us!

Hello Reader,

Last weekend, Bethany Farm opened its gates for the Loudoun Fall Farm Tour.

We walked neighbors through the garden beds,

showed off our farm robot, and even had a cooking demo going under the tent. Shout out to the VA Cooperative Extension for hosting our farm-to-table workshop!

It was a full day, and it was good to meet so many of you in person.

Tonight, we’re back at it, this time online.

Join us at 7:30 PM ET for our Seed Saving Webinar.

We’ll cover how to harvest, clean, and store seeds from your garden so you can grow the same varieties year after year. No new seed packets required.

Whether you made it to the farm or you’re joining us from across the country or abroad, we’d love to see you tonight.

Grow abundantly,
Nicky and Dave

PS. Just showing off our Long de Nice (Cucurbita moschata) humongous French heirloom pumpkin .

We shared seeds from this plant last year with Market Table Bistro's chef, Jason Lage and look at what he grew this year. I bet he's going to make some yummy bisque from it.

PPS. You too, can save your seeds with us.

Most agricultural technology is built for large commercial operations. Very little of it is designed for small farms like ours. When Suma Reddy and her team reached out about piloting the robot she’s been building, I asked her why this project mattered to her. Her answer: She wants to make farming possible for...

Tomatoes at the Lovettsville Cooperative Market

Dear Reader Why We Grow You may already know what first got us into growing food. Our first two children were born with food allergies. Ethan, our second, had eczema so severe we could see it on his face after every meal. 2 year old Ethan with eczema Dave and I started questioning everything. What was in the food we were buying? What were we actually feeding our children? We wanted to know where our food was coming from. And we wanted to be the ones growing it. We switched to organic. At the...

Lindsey's Garden

Dear Reader, Last February, one of the growers we mentor, Lindsey knocked her curtain rod loose in her kitchen. The rod that held her seedling trays in place. Every seedling she had started, lettuces, microgreens, pepper, went flying. Soil on the walls. Trays on the floor. An hour of cleanup. She could have cried. She almost did. But she didn't quit. By March she was filling raised beds with cardboard, straw, old leaves, and half-finished compost from a bin that had spent the winter getting —...
